Welcome to my page on Crohn's Disease. My name is Annee and I was diagnosed with this disease on August 27, 1998. For those of you out there who don't really know what it is, here's the rundown for you.

Crohn's Disease, or Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), is a disease of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It predominates in the lower part of the small intestine (ileum) and the large intestine (colon), but may occur in any section of the GI tract. Crohn's usually causes diarrhea, crampy abdominal pain, fever, and at times, rectal bleeding. Loss of appetite and subsequent weight loss may also occur. Symptoms may range from mild to severe, but people with the disease can live active and productive lives.

Crohn's Disease is chronic and the cause is unknown. Medication currently available decreases inflammation and usually will control symptoms, but does not provide a cure. It has been estimated that as many as 2 million Americans have IBD. Males and females seem to be affected equally and while it affects people of all ages, most cases are diagnosed in young people in their teens and early twenties.
